Aida, Kutch (Miocene of India)
Where: India (23.4° N, 68.8° E: paleocoordinates 16.8° N, 67.5° E)
• coordinate stated in text
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Khari Nadi Formation, Aquitanian (23.0 - 20.4 Ma)
• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: open shallow subtidal; lithified marl
• The Khari Nadi Formation elsewhere contains trough cross-stratified bioclastic calcarenite, storm-generated pebbly layers, a 'Turritella bed' that indicates an open shallow-marine environment with a bathymetry of c. 3-5 m, and finally a thin, heavily bioturbated limestone that presents evidence of sediment starvation as a result of water deepening and transgression (Catuneanu & Dave, 2017). These features suggest an open shallow subtidal environment above wave base.
• Collected from several bands of fossiliferous marl/limestone.
Size class: macrofossils
