Taxonomy
Bythocyprididae was named by Maddocks (1969). It is extant. Its type is Bythocypris.

It was reranked as the subfamily Bythocypridinae by Hazel and Holden (1971).

It was assigned to Bairdiidae by Hazel and Holden (1971); to Bairdiacea by Blaszyk (1987); and to Bairdioidea by Babinot and Colin (2011) and Forel (2017).
