Terataspis was named by Hall (1863) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife-l Sepkoski's reference number: 421]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Echinolichinae by Thomas and Holloway (1988); to Lichidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Lichida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Echinolichini by Pollitt et al. (2005).
