Taxonomy
Pachysiagon ferragus was named by Owen (1874). Its type specimen is BM 32903, a mandible (right mandibular fragment with two molars), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Macropus ferragus by Owen (1874), Lydekker (1894), Marshall (1974); it was recombined as Macropus (Macropus) ferragus by Dawson and Flannery (1985).
