Taxonomy
Xenosmilus hodsonae was named by Martin et al. (2000). Its type specimen is BIOPSI 101, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Haile 21A, which is in an Irvingtonian terrestrial horizon in Florida. It is the type species of Xenosmilus.
