Discosaurus
Taxonomy
Discosaurus was named by Leidy (1851) [Sepkoski's age data: K u]. It is not extant. Its type is Discosaurus vetustus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Cimoliasaurus by Cope (1869), Hay (1902), Williston (1903) and Williston (1906); it was synonymized subjectively with Cimoliosaurus by Lydekker (1889).
It was assigned to Brachaucheniidae by Hay (1930); to Elasmosauridae by Thurmond and Jones (1981); and to Plesiosauria by Carroll (1988) and Sepkoski (2002).
