Diagnosis

---|---|---|
P. D. Gingerich et al. 2005 | Georgiacetines, like protocetines, have generalized skulls retaining three incisors in the premaxilla and three molars in the maxilla. Most or all have a derived, reduced pelvic girdle, with the sacrum consisting of a single centrum with or without substantial auricular processes that articulated with the ilia of the innominates. Hind limbs are not yet known, but reduction of the sacrum suggests that these were probably reduced as well. Georgiacetus itself appears not to have had a distinct sacral vertebra, and the ilium of the preserved innominate shows no evidence of articulation with an auricular process (Hulbert et al., 1998). Locomotion was probably powered more by the tail than the feet. | |
M. D. Uhen 2008 | Similar in size to Babiacetus, but larger than Protocetus, Rodhocetus, Takracetus, Gaviacetus and Indocetus, and smaller than Eocetus, Natchitochia, and Pappocetus. Georgiacetus lacks a synarthrotic connection between the innominate and the vertebral column, which is present in Protocetus, Rodhocetus, Gaviacetus, and Natchitochia (Hulbert et al., 1998). |
