Taxonomy
Progomphotherium maraisi was named by Pickford (2003). Its type specimen is AM 1’95, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Auchas Pit AM 02, which is in a Miocene/Miocene channel siliciclastic in Namibia.
