Moeritherium
Taxonomy
Moeritherium was named by Andrews (1901). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Moeritheriidae.
It was assigned to Moeritherioidea by Osborn (1921); to Proboscidea by Mahboubi et al. (1984); and to Moeritheriidae by Andrews (1906), Abel (1919), Simpson (1945), Carroll (1988), Shoshani and Tassy (1996), McKenna and Bell (1997), Shoshani and Tassy (2005), Delmer et al. (2006), Sanders et al. (2010).
It was assigned to Moeritherioidea by Osborn (1921); to Proboscidea by Mahboubi et al. (1984); and to Moeritheriidae by Andrews (1906), Abel (1919), Simpson (1945), Carroll (1988), Shoshani and Tassy (1996), McKenna and Bell (1997), Shoshani and Tassy (2005), Delmer et al.
