Originally Eporeodon (Oreodontoides) oregonensis

Taxonomy
Eporeodon (Oreodontoides) oregonensis was named by Thorpe (1921). Its type specimen is YPM 12329, a partial skull (Partial skull with I1(br.)-M3 (I3, P4, and M1 br.)), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Merychyus oregonensis by Loomis (1924); it was recombined as Oreodontoides oregonensis by Thorpe (1924), Thorpe (1937), Schultz and Falkenbach (1947), Schultz and Falkenbach (1949), Stevens and Stevens (2007) and Stevens et al. (2023).

Stevens et al. 2023Similar in size to the smallest Merychyus,with a low flat dorsal profile, moderately wide frontals with noridge or protrusion at the midline, as found in Eporeodon or Desmatochoerus. Nasals do not reach posteriorly to the region of the orbits. No prelacrimal vacuity. Infraorbital foramen above the posterior border of P3.
