Felis (Lynx) canadensis was named by Kerr (1792) [also incorrectly attributed to Rafinesque 1817]. It is extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Felis borealis by Mivart (1882); it was recombined as Felis canadensis by Kurten (1968); it was recombined as Lynx canadensis by Allen (1895), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Johnson et al. (2006) and Breitenmoser and Breitenmoser (2017).
