Taxonomy
Babiacetus mishrai was named by Bajpai and Thewissen (1998). Its type specimen is RUSB 2512, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Babia Hills, which is in a Lutetian estuary/bay shale in the Harudi Formation of India.
