Phocoenoides dalli (Dall's porpoise)
Taxonomy
Phocoena dalli was named by True (1885). It is extant. Its type specimen is USNM 21762, a skull. Its type locality is Adak Island strait, which is in a Holocene coastal horizon in Alaska. It is the type species of Phocoenoides.
It was recombined as Phocaena dalli by True (1885) and Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Phocoenoides dalli by Andrews (1911), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Hershkovitz (1966), Barnes (1977), Jefferson (1988), Vidal (1991), Rice (1998), Mead and Brownell (2005), Fajardo-Mellor et al. (2006), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008), Geisler et al. (2011) and Jefferson (2021).
It was recombined as Phocaena dalli by True (1885) and Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Phocoenoides dalli by Andrews (1911), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Hershkovitz (1966), Barnes (1977), Jefferson (1988), Vidal (1991), Rice (1998), Mead and Brownell (2005), Fajardo-Mellor et al. (2006), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008), Geisler et al. (2011) and Jefferson (2021).
