Taxonomy
Hyperoodon was named by Lacépède (1804) [type species is Hyperoodon ampullatus]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Hyperoodontidae. It was considered monophyletic by Lambert et al. (2009).
It was synonymized subjectively with Anarnacus by Cope (1890).
