Taxonomy
Oxygomphius frequens was named by von Meyer (1846). Its type specimen is UM Bux68.89, a tooth (Left M3), and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Amphiperatherium.

It was recombined as Amphiperatherium frequens by Filhol (1879), Hooker (1986), Crespo et al. (2020).
