Locality 1 near Mt. Roja, Lanzarote (Pleistocene of Spain)

Where: Spain (28.9° N, 13.9° W: paleocoordinates 28.9° N, 13.8° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Middle Pleistocene (0.8 - 0.1 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From unnamed lithostratigraphic unit. AGE: Rabatian (= mid Pleistocene) in Lecointre et al (1967); Zazo et al (2002) assume that this terrace was formed practically at the same time (1.2Myr) as an underlying lava flow. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: "16 -18 m beach (This height refers to elevation above high tide (H.T.) which is about 2 m above the Spanish Datum (S.D.) which is approximately mid-tide level."

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; calcareous sandstone

• From Meco and Stearns (1981): "Rough, composite rock platforms (" to m" of Driscoll et al. 1965) suggest that more than one stand of the sea may be represented"
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: calcareous sand. LITHIFICATION: Not stated, no figured specimens.

Size class: macrofossils
