USGS Cenozoic M1455 San Antonio River Road (Miocene of the United States)

Also known as UCMP IP6742

Where: Monterey County, California (35.9° N, 121.1° W: paleocoordinates 32.8° N, 113.9° W)

• coordinate stated in text

When: Pancho Rico Formation, Miocene (23.0 - 5.3 Ma)

• Described in reference as Pliocene. Pancho Rico Formation is Miocene per Addicott 1978 (Geological Survey Bulletin, Issue 1457).

Environment/lithology: marine; lithology not reported

• A westward shoaling and possible depositional limit of the Pancho Rico Formation, at least in the southwestern part of the outcrop area, is suggested by the relatively thin sequence of coarse-grained clastic rocks containing abundant mollusks indicative of shallow water.

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by D. L Durham in 1962
