Where: Baden-Württemberg, Germany (48.7° N, 10.2° E: paleocoordinates 48.9° N, 8.8° E)
• coordinate estimated from map
• small collection-level geographic resolution
When: OSM C mammal zone, Upper Freshwater Molasse Formation (Molasse Group), MN 5 (16.0 - 13.7 Ma)
• The fossils come from a 15 to 50 cm thick bed of marl and clay wich is overlain by 2 m of gastropod limestones which, in turn, are overlain by ejecta of the Ries impact. Lithological and biostratigraphical data point to a stratigraphic position within the Upper Freshwater Molasse at the Lower/Middle Miocene boundary (middle part of MN5).
• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: fluvial-lacustrine; unlithified marl and unlithified claystone
Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
Collected by E. P. J. Heizmann in 1980; reposited in the SMNS
Collection methods: sieve,
• The fossils are from an artificial outcrop (a 10 m deep trench) that existed in 1980 at the construction site of the Ulm-Würzburg autobahn.
