Where: Colombia (11.9° N, 71.3° W: paleocoordinates 11.1° N, 68.2° W)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Jimol Formation, Burdigalian to Burdigalian (20.4 - 13.8 Ma)
• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Jimol Fm, which unconformably overlies the Uipta Fm (Early Miocene) and is unconformably overlain by the Castilletes Fm (?Pliocene-Pleistocene). AGE: Middle Miocene (provisional), on the basis of only poor macrofossil biostratigraphy; including Orthaulax. Upper sratigraphy may prove to be of Late Miocene age. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From unknown position within stratigraphy.
• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: coastal; lithified, calcareous sandstone
Size class: macrofossils
Preservation: cast, mold/impression, replaced with calcite
Collected by Thomas; reposited in the USNM
