Where: Shaanxi, China (35.2° N, 109.0° E: paleocoordinates 39.5° N, 87.3° E)
• coordinate estimated from map
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Yanchang Formation, Longobardian (242.0 - 235.0 Ma)
• Fossils come from Upper part of Lower Member of Tongchuan. Ash beds from within the insect-bearing units dated at 238.0 and 237.4 Ma, indicating latest Ladinian age (Zheng et al., 2018). Most authors have indicated that the Tongchuan Formation should be abolished as it has no distinctive lithostratigraphic criteria by which it can be separated from the Yanchang Formation.
