Eiberg section, sample 11 (Triassic of Austria)

Where: Austria (47.6° N, 12.2° E: paleocoordinates 31.1° N, 16.6° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Paracochloceras suessi ammonoid zone, Hochalm Member (Kössen Formation), Rhaetian (208.5 - 201.3 Ma)

• Unit 2, upper Lumachellen-Bereich

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; lithified limestone

• Carbonate microfacies and biofacies (particularly the composition of the brachiopod and bivalve associations) suggest that the Hochalm Member unit 2 was deposited in a shallow subtidal environment of less than 20 m water depth. The occurrence of the marine euryhaline Lutkevichinella and absence ofmarine euhaline taxa such as Bairdiidae andHealdiidae and brackish water ostracods in unit 2 are in accordance with a protected lagoonal environment where slight deviations from normal salinity occurred.

Size class: microfossils

Collection methods: acetic
