Buckridge Cave (Pleistocene of Australia)

Also known as 5U169, Naracoorte

Where: South Australia, Australia (37.0° S, 140.9° E: paleocoordinates 37.7° S, 140.7° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Pleistocene (2.6 - 0.0 Ma)

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; poorly lithified, silty, sandy siliciclastic sediments

• karstic cave in Oligocene to Miocene limestones

•presumably served as den for carnivorous mammals such as Tasmanian Devils and Thylacoleo (Reed & Bourne, 2000)

• not reported but probably quite similar to the “cave earth” in the Henschke and Vicotria caves

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: The cave was discovered in 1999 during vineyard preparation and collecting took place in the course of a salvage excavation within only 72 hours.

•The collected material now is reposited in the Flinders University (FU) pealeontology collection
