Cheiopteria glabra Community, Prague Basin (Silurian of Czech Republic)

Where: Czech Republic (50.0° N, 14.3° E: paleocoordinates 51.0° S, 56.8° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Monograptus fritschi linearis zone, Ludfordian (425.6 - 423.0 Ma)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; gray, calcareous shale and lime mudstone

• "Low diveresity indicates generally unfavorable conditions [with only C. glabra dominant]...Deposit feeders absent...The environment was shallow water, below wave base, somewhat low oxygen content (relatively high free carbon content), very low or no current activity. Shells of C. glabra commonly cover the bedding planes. This was most probably caused by mass mortalities under abiotic conditions."
• "Mostly disarticulated shells occur in micritic limestones forming nodules in dark-gray calcareous shales with graptolites and rare ostracodes. The horizon...occurs just below the bank of biodetrital Lst with abundant cephalopods..."

Collection methods: Life modes and abundances given for bivalves. List based on taxa mentioned in text and tables 16.11 (Orthoceras Quarry) and 16.12 (Praha-Pankrac).
