• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Gatun Fm, which regionally overlies the Caimito Fm or Mesozoic basement. AGE: Tortonian, on the basis of revised chronostratigraphy (Hendy, unpublished data); direct date is extrapolated from sequence of 87Sr/86Sr data calibrated to stratigraphic height. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From lower member of the Gatun Formation; zone G in composite stratigraphy.

Environment/lithology: coastal; poorly lithified sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow-marine, siliciclastic environment.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Sandstone, some bioturbation, moderately dense packing of shells. LITHIFICATION: Poorly-lithified, based on observations of material.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: original aragonite
