Zone 1- Millepora - Trochita Zone (Pliocene of the United States)

Also known as Reef 4272

Where: Florida (25.7° N, 80.4° W: paleocoordinates 25.8° N, 79.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Buckingham Formation, Pliocene (5.3 - 2.6 Ma)

Environment/lithology: perireef or subreef; reef rocks

• This zone encompassed the fore-reef and reef crest and represented a high energy environment. Massive coralline algae growths formed the main reef framework in this zone and provided the substrate for a rich fauna of limpet and limpet-like gastropods.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils, microfossils
