Tumuxiuke, Tarim Basin, lower reef interval-stage 1, Nanyigou section, AFO 133 (Ordovician of China)

Also known as Reef 2457

Where: China (40.1° N, 78.8° E: paleocoordinates 35.5° S, 112.3° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Belodina confluens zone, Lianglitag Formation, Katian (453.0 - 445.2 Ma)

Environment/lithology: reef, buildup or bioherm; packstone and mudstone

• The reef has a biostromal character, with massive bedding and an undulating top. Below the microbial reef, medium-bedded packstones occur. Within the reef, grey medium- to thickbedded clotted micritic mudstones are developed. Bioclasts are rare in the lower part of the reef. In the middle part of the reef, bindstones are common, and stromatolitic structures are becoming more abundant than in the lower part, which can be observed especially on weathered rock surfaces. In the top part of the reef, thin-bedded micritic mudstones occur with rare bioclasts. The microbial carbonates are overlain by well-bedded bioclastic packstones rich in echinoderms and gastropods, with rare brachiopods.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
