the Mission Valley Fm. has been dated at 42.18 Ma (Ar-Ar); the dated horizon is only clearly associated with two sites (SDSNH Locs. 3428 and 3539) but presumably applies well to the entire fauna; the date is corrected to 42.83 +/- 0.24 (AA on bentonite) by Walsh 1996b
