Kemating (Miocene of Germany)

Where: Germany (48.6° N, 13.3° E: paleocoordinates 48.8° N, 11.6° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Burdigalian (20.4 - 16.0 Ma)

• Late Burdigalian. The Ottnangian sediments, originally dated as middle Ottnangian (Wenger 1987), are today believed to be of an early Ottnangian age (Pipperr et al. 2007) based on the composition of the foraminiferal fauna.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: open shallow subtidal; unlithified, coarse-grained sandstone

• Foraminifera suggest a paleo-depth of ~25 metres.
• Coarse-grained fossiliferous sands intercalated with thin marly layers. Unlithified based on sieving method.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the BSP

Collection methods: peroxide, sieve
