Cavities & Caves at Kess-Kess mud mounds (Devonian of Morocco)

Where: Morocco (31.4° N, 4.1° W: paleocoordinates 52.5° S, 27.2° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: Kess-Kess Formation (Saheb el Rhassel Group), Emsian (407.6 - 393.3 Ma)

• -Its age is similar of Polygnathus inversus conodont zone, late Lochkovian (Early Devonian).

•- It occur within the Emsian Kess-Kess mud mounds

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal shelf; lithified limestone

• The material collected represent cryptic and/or vent biota. The assemblage is nearly monospecific. Such a low diversity was also found in other groups inhabiting the cryptic environments within Kess-Kess mud mounds.
• This limestone represents inter-mound carbonates.
