Osztramos locality 3 (Pliocene of Hungary)

Also known as Ostramos 3

Where: Borsodabaujzemplen, Hungary (48.5° N, 20.8° E: paleocoordinates 48.4° N, 20.7° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: Villanyian (3.2 - 2.6 Ma)

• MN17, Late Pliocene.

Environment/lithology:

• 'The red clay sediment deposited in a cave formed by a cleft running northwest to southeast direction was blasted in 1971. At the time of palaeontological collections, in 1969 and 1970, the upper part of the profile, 10m high and 5-6m wide, was made up of yellowish sediment closed downwards by a calcite shelf, below which reddish brown sediment was found. The material was collected from 9 arbitrarily delimited (20-30cm wide) strata.'

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collection methods: The material was collected from 9 arbitrarily delimited (20-30cm wide) strata. Analysis by layers has not been carried out so far. The faunal list is primarily from layers 2 and 3.
