• Age of Baton Formation has been subject of considerable uncertainty. Conodont work suggests Lochkovian age.

Environment/lithology: marine; gray siltstone and gray sandstone

• interpreted as deeper offshore "Bohemian" fauna
• "The sequence lacks the distinctive quartzitic sandstone and limestone lithologies seen at Reefton, and the succession is composed largely of thick grey siltstone and mudstone, with grey sandstones higher in the sequence."
