• In the 5th terrace of the Sal river (a Don tributary). Late Lower Pleistocene, Taman faunal unit, reversed polarity - just before the Brunhes/Matuyama boundary.

Environment/lithology: fluvial

• 'The alluvial deposits are overlain by a thick series of cover loams with several horizons of buried soils.' p. 141.
