Shioya Group Kanomatazawa Fm Molluscan Fauna Locality 13 (Miocene of Japan)

Also known as Locality 13

Where: Japan (36.7° N, 140.1° E: paleocoordinates 38.0° N, 138.6° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: upper Member (Kanomatazawa Formation), Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• middle unit of shioya group, divided into two members, lower and upper.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; lithified, coarse-grained conglomerate and lithified, medium-grained, conglomeratic sandstone

• This formation is subdivided into the lower and upper members. The two members differ from each other in their distribution as well as their lithological characteristics. The Lower member is distributed in the whole surveyed area showing similar lithology at every place. Distribution of the upper member is separated at the sekiya anticline.
• The Kanomatazawa formation is composed of conglomerate sandstone siltstone and acidic pyroclastic rocks. Lithology of the upper member is represented by mudstone in the western side whereas it is represented by coarse clastic sediments in the eastern side of the anticline.
