El Moro - Calcareous clays (Miocene of Dominican Republic)

Where: Dominican Republic (19.9° N, 71.6° W: paleocoordinates 19.9° N, 70.8° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Cercado Formation, Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• The section starts at sea level with claystone and continues for close to 700 ft with alternating claystone, limestones and uncommon sands. At 675-825 ft the section is capped by a limeston. From unknown formation (Possibly Cercado, Gurabo or Mao) at the time of writing. Faunal similarities suggest that this unit is correlated with strata more recently assigned to the Cercadi Fm.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

• No paleoenvironmental data reported by Maury.
• Calcareous clay, gypsiferous.
