El Moro - Limestone cap (Pliocene of Dominican Republic)

Where: Dominican Republic (19.9° N, 71.6° W: paleocoordinates 19.9° N, 71.2° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Gurabo Formation, Early/Lower Pliocene (5.3 - 3.6 Ma)

• The section starts at sea level with claystone and continues for close to 700 ft with alternating claystone, limestones and uncommon sands. At 675-825 ft the section is capped by a limestone, from whence collections were derived. From unknown formation (Possibly Cercado, Gurabo or Mao) at the time of writing. Faunal similarities suggest that this unit is correlated with strata more recently assigned to the Gurabo Fm.

• No paleoenvironmental data reported by Maury.
• White, yellowish (from weathering) limestone.
