Krasiejów locality (upper) (Triassic of Poland)

Where: Opole, Poland (50.7° N, 18.2° E: paleocoordinates 30.3° N, 17.6° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Drawno Beds Formation, Tuvalian (232.0 - 221.5 Ma)

• Dating of the Krasiejów assemblage has been based largely upon conchostracans and vertebrates (Dzik & Sulej 2007), which have been used to propose biostratigraphic correlations to the Hassberge (= Coburg Sandstone and Blasensandstein) and Weser formations (late Carnian) of the lower Middle Keuper of Germany. However, lithostratigraphic correlations to the Arnstadt Formation of Germany have been used to suggest an alternative, younger, early Norian age (e.g. Szulc 2005: Hallesches Jahrb. Geowiss. B 19:161-170). According to Qvarnström et al. (2021), A late Carnian age of the fossil assemblage is inferred from plant macrofossils, thevertebrate community, conchostracans, and charophytes.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: fluvial; poorly lithified, massive claystone and gray, sandy, calcareous mudstone

• "flood deposit"
• "a horizontal claystone bed overlying an obliquely stratified mudstone sequence with locally developed calcareous grainstone beds and lenses."

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils, microfossils
