Coffee Mill Hammock Mbr, Thompson Fm - Palm Beach County (Pleistocene of the United States)

Where: Palm Beach County, Florida (26.7° N, 80.4° W: paleocoordinates 26.6° N, 80.5° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Coffee Mill Hammock Member (Thompson Formation), Late/Upper Pleistocene (0.1 - 0.0 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: Stratigraphically above the Bell Glade Mbr of the Fort Thompson Fm. AGE: late Sangamonian interglacial stage (Late Pleistocene) based on Table 2 of Petuch (2004). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Occurrences from various, unspecified stratigraphic positions in member. Separated from underlying units by regressions during the Illinoian glacial stage.

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; unlithified marl

• ENVIRONMENT: "Mangrove islands and extensive turtle grass beds" according to Petuch (2004). Coffee Mill Mbr contains the Chione elevata community (shallow lagoon Thalassia beds) and the Pyrazisinus ultimus community (mangrove forrests and intertidal mud flats). SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY: Acculated during interglacial events. Petuch (2004) states "during sea level highstand", though presumably accumulation may have initiated during preceding transgressive events [enterer].
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Marl. No detailed lithologic description reported in text. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, based on figured specimens.
