S2/f567 - Jimmy Creek Quartzite, Slaty Creek (Ordovician of New Zealand)

Also known as V 1568

Where: New Zealand (40.7° S, 172.4° E: paleocoordinates 13.1° N, 167.7° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Jimmy Creek Quartzite Member (Aorangi Mine Formation), Yapeenian (470.3 - 467.3 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Jimmy Creek Quartzite, the highest member of Aorangi Mine Fm, which overlies the Battery Mbr (Castlemanian-Yapeenian), and is overlain by the Slaty Creek Fm (Darriwilian). THICKNESS: 300 m in the Little Salty Creek section. AGE: Jimmy Creek Quartzite is Yapeenian in age; collection is derived from the zone of I.V. maximodivergens to Oncograptus. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Unknown position within member.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, pyritic, gray sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: No environmental data reported. Presumably shallower (coarser, more oxygenated facies) than underlying Anthill Black Shale Mbr, and silicicastic, but from an unknown specific environmentals setting.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Hard, medium-grey, pyritic, indurated quartz-sandstone forming structureless beds 1-8 m in thickness. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, as text states lithology to be "hard".

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the IGNS

Collection methods: bulk,

• COLLECTOR: G. Smith 1963 (see Smith 1966); re-collected by R.A. Cooper 1965-7. REPOSITORY: New Zealand Geological Survey (now GNS Science), Lower Hutt, New Zealand
