Loc. 907, 8 km west of La Mira (Miocene of Mexico)

Where: Michoacan, Mexico (18.0° N, 102.4° W: paleocoordinates 18.6° N, 99.8° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Ferrotepec Formation, Middle Miocene (16.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: transition zone or lower shoreface; poorly lithified sandstone

• Stratigraphic section measured by Durham et al. (1981) at nearby "Mch 17" is dominantly siltstone, but contains interbedded shell coquinas. There is little other evidence, but this seems most consistent with an offshore transition environment where there was intermittent storms to produce the shell beds.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: original aragonite, original calcite
