Well 2 Hendry County (Pleistocene of the United States)

Where: Hendry County, Florida (26.8° N, 81.1° W: paleocoordinates 26.8° N, 80.7° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Caloosahatchee Formation, Early/Lower Pleistocene (2.6 - 0.8 Ma)

• Determined from cores from test wells drilled by US Corps of Engineers in 1950

•3-4 foot below sea level

•Age determination revised in more recent papers (see Lithostratigraphy, Petrography,

•Biostratigraphy, and Strontium-Isotope

•Stratigraphy of the Surficial Aquifer System

•of Western Collier County, Florida, Edwards et al., 1998, USGS Open-File Report 98-205)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; gray, white, silty, sandy marl

• The Caloosahatchee marl consists predominantly of shells, sand, and silt. Fresh unweathered exposures are generally pale cream-colored to light gray, although green clay marls have been included in the formation. The sand and shell variations of the Caloosahatchee marl can be separated from the marine formations of Pleistocene age only by identification of the mollusk faunas. Very shelly.

Size class: mesofossils

Collection methods: core

• observed from cores
