• "These beds, often referred to as the 'rybnye slantsy' (= fish shales), form part of the upper sequence of the Karabastau Formation and have been dated as early Late Jurassic on the basis of plant remains"

Environment/lithology: lacustrine - large; gray, calcareous shale

• "a long, narrow, intermontane lake"
• "extremely fine grained, grey bituminous paper shales"
