Jackson Ranger Station well (161 ft), Niceville [Choctawhatchee Fm] (Miocene of the United States)

Where: Okaloosa County, Florida (30.5° N, 86.5° W: paleocoordinates 30.7° N, 84.8° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Choctawhatchee Formation, Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: From the Choctawhatchee, which overlies the Shoal River Fm (Middle Miocene). AGE: Late Miocene, on the basis of macrofossil and microfossils biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From 161 ft below surface.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; poorly lithified, gray, green, sandy marl

• ENVIRONMENT: Not discussed in text, but appears to be shallow marine siliciclastic.
• LITHOLOGY: Greenish gray, sandy, foraminiferal marl. LITHIIFCATION: Poorly lithified, assumed on the basis of use of the term "cuttings", age, and facies description.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils, microfossils

• COVERAGE: Exhaustive for macrofossils and microfossils, but based on cuttings so presumably a incomplete inventory. NOMENCLATURE: Not an authoritative publication with somewhat antiquated nomenclature, though with species-resolution identifications.
