Sister taxa: Megapeomys lavocati, Megapeomys lindsayi

Type specimen: UCR 15412, a skull (nearly complete skull with associated partial mandibles). Its type locality is Massacre Lake RV-7043, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial horizon in Nevada.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore

Distribution: found only at Massacre Lake RV-7043
