Type specimen: RC 50 (Rubidge Collection, Wellwood Museum, Graaff-Reinet), a skull. Its type locality is New Bethesda Commonage, which is in a Wuchiapingian/Changhsingian terrestrial horizon in the Balfour Formation of South Africa.
