Type specimens:
- Hyporhina antiqua: PU 11390 (complete articulated skull and lower jaws). Its type locality is Battle Spring Draw (Lower Nodular Zone), which is in an Orellan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.
- Hyporhina galbreathi: KUVP No. 8221, a partial skull (nearly complete skull missing quadrate, lower squamosal, and lower jaw). Its type locality is Cedar Creek (Lower), which is in an Orellan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of Colorado.
Ecology: fossorial insectivore
Distribution:
• Oligocene of United States (2: Colorado, South Dakota collections)
Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
