Belongs to Metaphiomys according to Osborn 1908
Sister taxa: Metaphiomys schaubi, Metaphiomys zallahensis
Type specimen: AMNH 13273, a mandible. Its type locality is Quarry I (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian fluvial sandstone/mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore
Distribution:
• Oligocene of Egypt (1 collection), Tanzania (1)
Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
