Type specimens:

  • Stereognathus ooliticus: Its type locality is Stonesfield Slate quarries, which is in a Bathonian marginal marine sandstone in the Taynton Limestone Formation of the United Kingdom
  • Stereognathus hebridicus: UBGM 20572, a tooth (Left upper molar). Its type locality is UB 7111, Cladach a'Ghlinne, which is in a Bathonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal marl in the Kilmaluag Formation of the United Kingdom.
