Type specimens:
- Cryptoclidus richardsoni: BMNH R. 6696, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Brick-field near Montevideo House, Chickerell, which is in a Callovian/Oxfordian marine horizon in the Oxford Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
- Plesiosaurus plicatus: Its type locality is Summertown, Wolvercote (OUM) (unspecific horizon of the Oxford Clay Formation, which is in a Callovian marine claystone in the Oxford Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
