Sister taxa: Charactosuchus fieldsi, Charactosuchus sansoai
Type specimen: Museum Basel Osteologische Abt. Nr. A. a. 105, a mandible. Its type locality is 300 m ENE from Dump, which is in a Lutetian marine limestone in the Chapelton Formation of Jamaica.
