Sister taxa: Scleromys angustus, Scleromys colombianus, Scleromys osbornianus, Scleromys praecursor, Scleromys schurmanni

Type specimen: MLP 82-VI-3-2, a mandible (Right mandible fragment with complete dentition). Its type locality is Piso Astrapothericulense, which is in a Colhuehuapian/Santacrucian terrestrial horizon in Argentina.

Ecology: ground dwelling frugivore-folivore

Distribution:

• Miocene of Argentina (8 collections), Chile (1), Peru (1)

Total: 10 collections each including a single occurrence
